Today is the first day of 2016! Over the past few days and weeks , I have been focusing on the presence of God in our lives and how the fact that “God is with us” is such a prominent theme in the Bible.
Quoting Deuteronomy 20:1-4
“1 When you go out to war against your enemies, and see horses and chariots and an army larger than your own, you shall not be afraid of them, for the LORD your God is with you, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.
2 And when you draw near to the battle, the priest shall come forward and speak to the people
3and shall say to them, ‘Hear, O Israel, today you are drawing near for battle against your enemies: let not your heart faint. Do not fear or panic or be in dread of them,
4 for the LORD your God is he who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to give you the victory.'”
Here Moses was preaching one of his final sermons to the Israelites who were about to cross into the promised land. The inhabitants there were not going to go down without a fight. Hence, verse 1 here says, when you go out to war, not if you go out to war.
And it says the enemies may be bigger and stronger than them but they are not to fear. Why not?
For the LORD your God is with you.
We see that repeated later in verse 3-4. Moses told them not to fear or panic or be in dread of the enemies. Why?
For the LORD your God is he who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to give the victory.
Dear friend, this year we may all face challenges and obstacles that seem too much for us to overcome. Yes we can’t overcome it by ourselves…but only by God’s presence with us.
God is with us who are his children, and he will fight for us and give us the victory! We are called not to be afraid of the future challenges but be bold and courageous!
